What does NASCAR stand for?

NASCAR Videos now compiled for easier Viewing!
NASCAR Stands for various things depending on which side of the fence you are on ~ or in this instance, which side of the Pacific ocean.
If you are in the US, then Nascar stands for National Association for Stock Car and Auto Racing. But to some less kind than I, I understand it could also mean Non-Athletic Sport Centred Around Rednecks.
I live on the other side of the world beside the Pacific Ocean, so to me it could also mean North American Stupid Car Accident Repitition which it seems to be when watching the video compilations at www.mumsvideo.com/nascar as all they seem to be doing is bashing each other up. Or to us less fortunate (?) Aussies, it really doesn’t seem like cricket.
Nascar fans though are world wide and many of them do reside here in Australia. Here we have the formula 500 which creates a great deal of excitement in the cities in which it runs.
Locally we have “smash ‘em up derby’s” which seems to satisfy many of the “petrol-heads” in our communities. Here we refer to car enthusiasts as petrol-heads as a term of endearment. Aussie’s aren’t always polite in our references but when spoken kindly it is understood that we understand their afflication with car racing and tend to give them moral support.
It is the Nascar wives ~ or petrol-heads wives~ we have great empathy for as we understand that that they are likely to get hurt if they walk in front of the TV while a race is on. This applies especially here in Aus when the Formula 500 is on. If they unthinkingly enter the room when the race is on, they are then likely to be turned into a ‘go-fer’ another beer please dear. Any self-respecting ‘petrol-head’ wife knows better than to start this but sometimes forgets. Three beers later, she is likely to be still ‘go-fering’ if she isn’t careful!
But alas, I am about to join the ranks of NASCAR partners.
You see, come April I’m off to live in Canada and my man is a NASCAR enthusiast. Good thing I have an interest in fast cars, dust and the smell of petrol. Whoops! Sorry I’ll have to get used to the new lingo~ I should have said gas.
Gas to us Aussies though often means something that frequently stinks to high heaven! We use Dexsal usually to relieve the symptoms.
Nascar racing is big corporate business in the US the same as the formula 500 is here in Australia. Big dollars, big men, big cars with lotsa grunt and too often, big egos. And I’m looking forward to ‘getting into it’ ASAP.
